Project 2 Design: Stalk

With the ubiquity of devices that connect to the internet, network-related security is more important than ever. To avoid consequences that range from personal data leaks to massive attacks on the world’s infrastructure, we need better awareness and control of our device’s behavior. Within this project, we sought to make this behavior explicit.

With Stalk, the interactive router, the aim is to provide that user with a real-time view of their devices’ communications with the outside world. Acting as an access point, Stalk’s shape-changing ‘flower’ opens up to represent one’s device’s activity. A central control stem gives you live feedback and the ability to control bandwidth. Notice anything strange? By giving the stem a twist and limit the device’s throughput, while the user can investigate.
